Back to School Safety Checklist: Healthy Relationships Under Title IX

As you start to plan for the new school year, it’s important to keep in mind the safety of your students. One way you can do that is to help them identify the characteristics of healthy relationships and their rights under Title IX, which prohibit sexual violence, bullying and more.

According to a study published in the journal “Pediatrics”, “men who recalled being frequent bullies in school were four times more likely to physically abuse their partner than those who reported never bullying in school.” The study also found a link between "bullying others at school and perpetration of IPV (intimate partner violence)." The report concluded that “Individuals who are likely to perpetuate abusive behaviors against others may do so across childhood

Developing a healthy style of communication is important to most people and considered a life skill that many desire. This skill can be developed at an early age and many educators are now making it a point to foster communication skills to help their students. 

Unfortunately, we sometimes see younger people who show signs of unhealthy communication that manifest in the forms of unhealthy relationships and anger.
